Salomon's story begins in 1947 in the heart of the French Alps, in Annecy, to be precise. Founded by François Salomon and his family, the company began with the manufacture of saw blades and ski edges. In the 1950s, they developed the first safety ski binding with automatic release and thus found their true passion: alpine winter sports. After pioneering ski bindings and the SX90 ski boot at the end of the 70s, they ventured into skis and snowboards for the first time in the 90s. But what use is all this forward-looking development if it has no permanence? Salomon has long since set the course for sustainability. The brand attaches great importance to minimizing the environmental impact of its products and relies on environmentally friendly solutions. For example, recyclable materials are used, such as in the fully recyclable Index Runners and the Brigade Index ski/snowboard helmet. Since 2020, Salomon has been conducting life cycle analyses to identify and minimize the environmental impact of water, energy, CO₂ emissions, and waste. The future goals are ambitious: Environmental performance will be displayed for 100% of products, and all new products will be developed according to circular economy criteria. By the end of 2025, Salomon wants to ban all fluorinated chemicals such as PFCs, PFOAs, and PFAS from its waterproof membranes and DWR treatments. By submitting its climate targets to the Science Based Targets Initiative, Salomon aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
